Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:

- recognise the fundamentals of English grammar, phonetics, and phonology as well as morphology, analysing contemporary language variations

- develop metalinguistic awareness on the phonetics, phonology and morphology of Standard British and American English, along with the basic knowledge of grammar structure

- increase their listening skill and to increase their vocabulary (common words, idioms, phrasal verbs, and false friends)

The course is conducted in English.

The didactical material is bilingual (Italian - English).

Written examination: multiple-choice test consisting of 50 questions

- develop a reasonable competence in reading, oral comprehension, and in spoken English, with particular reference to the specialist lexicon relating to Organology and Music theory

The ultimate aim of the course is to engage and motivate students to use English as a means of communication within the musical working world, meeting in this way today’s professional needs, which are necessary to develop their careers.

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to build on their previously acquired competences: the fundamentals of English grammar, phonetics, phonology, and morphology of Standard British and American English

Content of the course and exam syllabus (if applicable)

This course aims to provide students with further practice to enhance their listening skills. BBC radio and TV programmes, and documentaries will be an integral part of the course. In every listening exercise, students will be asked to fill in an answer sheet containing a multiple choice questionnaire.
