Antonio Senatore

He graduated at a young age from the 'S. Pietro a Majella' Conservatoire in Naples, with honours, under the guidance of Jures Lello Balboni and Francesco Battimelli.

Afterwards he furthered his skills under Angelo Persichilli, Conrad Klemm, Peter Lukas Graf, Roberto Fabbriciani, and Emanuel Morris – principal flutist of the London Symphony Orchestra.

In 1977, he won the contest ‘Giovani Interpreti’ organised by RAI (Italy's national public broadcasting company) and in 1979 he passed through the national recruitment process in the State Police Band (2nd flute).

In a duo, he won the International Chamber Music Competition in Imperia and Capri.

His intense activity as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles has led him to perform in Italy and abroad (Geneve, Stuttgart, Lisbon, Luxembourg, Liège, Den Haag, London, Brussels, Hamburg, Miami, Nassau, New Delhi, Bombay, Funchal, Paris, Munchen, Gelsenkirken, Murcia, La Coruna, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).

From 1991 to the present, he is the principal flutist of the Orchestra of the "Giuseppe Verdi" Opera House, Salerno, under the direction of Daniel Oren.

From 1994 to 1999 he held the same role with the Orchestra Sinfonica ‘A. Scarlatti’ in Naples.

He has collaborated with conductors such as Daniel Oren, Massimo Pradella, Piero Bellugi, Lu Jia, Donato Renzetti, Peter Maag, Nicola Luisotti, Julian Kovatchev, Marcello Rota, Antonio Pirolli, Paul Arrivabeni, Ralph Weikert, Miguel Gomez Martinez, Frederic Chaslin, Giampaolo Bisanti, Ariel Zuckermann, Konrad von Abel, David Garforth, Janos Acs, Yoram David, Antonino Fogliani, and artists such as Franco Zeffirelli, Zhang Yimou, Hugo de Ana, Michele Campanella, Aldo Ciccolini, Laura de Fusco, Pavel Vernikov, Massimo Quarta, Sergei Levitin, Vadim Repin, Marcelo Alvarez, Juan Diego Florez, Jose Cura, Neil Shicoff, Celso Abelo, Nicola Martinucci, Annick Massis, Dimitra Theodossiou, Daniela Dessi, Ghena Dimitrova, Salvatore Licitra, Leo Nucci, Renato Bruson, Nino Machaidze, Fiorenza Cedolins, Jessica Pratt, Martina Serafin, Hui He, Ekaterina Siurina, Aleksandra Kurzak.

In 1997 he took part as principal flutist in the Spanish tour of the Chamber Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

He has made numerous video and audio recordings (RAI and Edi-pam).

In December 2011 he took part, with the orchestra of the Giuseppe Verdi Opera House (Salerno), in the Christmas Concert held at the Senate chamber; the performance was broadcast live across Europe by RAI.

In 1998 he collaborated, as 2nd Flute, on a CD of famous arias by Rossini arranged by flautist J. L. Toulou and guitarist F. Carulli.

He has recently recorded the 2 suites for flute and jazz piano trio by Claude Bolling.

In 2012 he attended the live recordings (Giuseppe Verdi Opera House – Salerno/Brillant label) of Les Pêcheurs De Perles by G. Bizet, Robert le Diable by G. Meyerbeer, and La Gioconda by A. Ponchielli, under the baton of Daniel Oren.

He has performed at prestigious festivals around the world music premiered and conducted by composers such as Morricone, Berio, Vandor, Frisina, Sciarrino, and Donatoni.

He is currently a professor of Flute at the 'Giuseppe Martucci' Conservatoire of Salerno.
