Nicola Dario Orabona earned his diploma in Cello performance at the 'San Pietro a Majella' Conservatoire (Naples).
While pursuing his studies, he attended the highly advanced Chamber Music Course at the Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia in Rome under the guidance of Rocco Filippini.
He has won numerous national and international competitions and has held many concerts in principal national and international cities, including Lisbon, Athens, Stockholm, London, Cambridge, Oxford, Strasbourg, Zurich, Basel, Nottingham, Cairo, Alexandria, Stuttgart, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Brussels, Budapest, and Vienna.
He has attended advanced cello courses under Mario Brunello, Tamas Varga, Mischa Maisky, and Rocco Filippini, and in Baroque performance under Anner Bijlsma, and Japp Achroeder.
As a recording artist, he has performed for Stradivarius, CPA, Real Sound, RAI and Mediaset (Italy's national public broadcasting companies), and Japanese TV.
He delivers summer courses in Cello and Chamber Music in various Italian academies.
For the Ravello Concert Society he has performed the Complete Works for violin, cello, and piano of Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Fauré, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Haydn, and Dvorak.
Within the string quartet repertoire, he has performed the Complete Works of Mozart, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Beethoven.
He collaborated with the San Carlo Opera House in Naples, and the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome.
Currently, he is the principal cellist at the ‘Da Vinci Symphonic Orchestra’ of Basel, Switzerland.
He plays an exquisite cello made in 1941 by Marc Labert.
He has recently published twelve of his works on theory, ear training, and music reading for Sibylla Editions (Rome).
