He graduated in Piano Performance at age 17.
He subsequently graduated in both Choral Music and Choir Conduction, and Composition, scoring 9.10/10 and 9/10 respectively, according to the previous degree assessment system.
He has been teaching Basics of Composition for Music Education for over 20 years at the 'G. Martucci' Conservatoire of Salerno.
His previous teaching posts (teaching Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue and Composition) were at the Reggio Calabria, Bari, Monopoli and Potenza Conservatoires.
Alongside a remarkable composing career in Italy and abroad, Nicola is the author of educational publications pertaining to the study of both Composition (i.e. Tema e variazioni for solo flute; La polifonia vocale da Palestrina a Monteverdi; Tre variazioni su tema di Haydn; La Falena; A la manière de…; Rataplan; Berben Editore and Pagano Editore) and Music Education (La fiaba di Cappuccetto Rosso, Monocordo Editore).
Recently, he has collaborated on the publication of ‘Il nuovo concorso a cattedra’ (a preparatory book for the Italian compulsory school system’s appointment process) edited by edises.
