Composer, pianist and conductor.
He graduated with highest honours in Piano performance with Carmen Romano, and Composition with Lucia Ronchetti at the 'G. Martucci' Conservatoire, Salerno.
He also graduated with highest honours from the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome in the prestigious Composition Courses held by Ivan Fedele.
He has been awarded various prizes from national and international competitions.
He also attended the masterclasses held by Salvatore Sciarrino, Tristan Murail, Brian Ferneyhough, Georges Aperghis, Michael Jarrell, Marco Stroppa, Hugues Doufourt, Yan Maresz, and Bruno Mantovani.
His compositions have been performed in Europe, USA, Japan, Russia, and Australia by important orchestras, ensembles, and soloists.
He was a Fellow Composer at the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici (Prix de Rome, 2014/15), as well as a composer in residence with the Aleph Ensemble – L'Arbresle (France, 2008); N.E.M. Nouvel Ensemble Moderne – Montreal (Canada, 2010); Schloss Solitude Akademie in Stuttgart (Germany, 2010/2011); and Fondazione Spinola-Banna per l'Arte in Torino (Italy, 2011).
His compositions have been commissioned by famous festivals and opera houses such as Acanthes Festival, Associazione Nuova Consonanza, Festival Valle d'Itria, the San Carlo Opera House of Naples, Fondazione Spinola-Banna, Xenia Ensemble & Studio for new Music (Moscow), Hameln 2012 Jubileum, Rudolf Eberle Foundation, and Biennale di Venezia.
During his professional activity he has conducted many lectures and workshops involving his music at important institutions such as the University of Montreal, University of Turin, the Schloss Solitude Akademie of Stuttgart, the Tschaikovsky Conservatoire of Moscow, the Utrecht Conservatoire.
His compositions are published by Raitrade (Rome, Italy), and Suvini-Zerboni (Milan, Italy).
Raffaele Grimaldi currently teaches at the 'G. Martucci' State Conservatoire of Salerno (Italy) and lives in Paris (France).
