Roberto Favaro

He graduated in the following master’s degrees: Saxophone; Clarinet; and Jazz performance under the guidance of M. Mazzoni, M. Marzi, and F. Mondelci.

Afterwards he furthered his skills under P. Tonolo and C. Fasoli.

Winner of national and international competitions, he carries out his activity in duo with piano, with accordion (DUOduemilaDUE, with which he has recorded Figure in movimento su sfondo bruno, a contemporary piece by Mario Pagotto), with the saxophone quartet ‘Aliseo’, and with the saxophone ensemble ‘Hallo Mr. Sax!’ (Parma), conducted by Mario Marzi, with whom he has also recorded the homonymous CD and ‘Gershwin’.

He has taken part in numerous classical and contemporary music festivals such as ‘Biennale Musica’ (Venice, Orchestra conducted by S. Bussotti), IRCAM (Paris), the 14th World Saxophone Congress in Lubiana, ‘Le Centre de Musique et d’Art’, as well as the American University of Beirut.

He participated in ‘Itinerari Jazz’ festival (Trento) performing with the vocalist Noa and with the ‘Orchestra Laboratorio’ conducted by Giancarlo Gazzani.

He collaborates with many musical groups and orchestras such as the Orchestra Filarmonia Veneta (also as a soloist), the RAI National Symphony Orchestra of Turin (with which he also performed radio and TV broadcast recordings), La Scala Opera House (Milan), the Philharmonic Orchestra of Turin, G. Verdi Opera House (Trieste), La Fenice Opera House (Venice), and the Royal Opera House of Turin (conductors: L. Berio, G. Pretre, D. Robertson, D. Oren, F. Shipway, R. Chailly, and I. Karabtchevsky).

He has recorded the following CDs: ‘Ricatti Ensemble’, ‘Suites’, ‘Ad ore piene’, and ‘Che ne sarà’ with the Ricatti Ensemble, with which he also performs recitals in different environments (e.g. theatre, dance, auditorium, street concert).

He has composed some pieces for solo saxophone and some others based on a selection of poems by Hikmet.

He taught saxophone in Milan, Sassari, La Spezia, Pesaro, Pescara, Trapani, and at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Antwerp.

Since 2007, he has been teaching Saxophone at the 'G. Martucci' Conservatoire of Salerno.

He recently recorded the CD for solo saxophone ‘In Volo’ released under the Velut Luna label.
