Salerno Conservatoire Orchestra

The Orchestra of Salerno Conservatoire is composed of students from the first- and second-cycle academic programs and is complemented by professional musicians selected through public auditions.

Founded with the primary aim of enhancing and bringing to completion the skills related to instrumental practice—particularly those connected with technical specificities and orchestral repertoire—the Orchestra serves as a high-level educational laboratory.

Its public performances, carried out by an ensemble that is renewed only in part each year, have a dual significance: on the one hand, they offer students on the threshold of a professional career the opportunity to complete their training; on the other, they give rise to productions of cultural importance, providing valuable listening opportunities for the public.

Recently conducted by Jacopo Sipari di Pescasseroli, Gaetano Lo Coco, Stefano Pagliani, and Nicola Samale, in 2023 the Orchestra performed Franz Liszt’s Dante Symphony for Dantedì, broadcast via the official channels of the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR). In the same year, it staged four operas in co-production with the “Giuseppe Verdi” Municipal Theatre of Salerno: Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow, Gioachino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Pietro Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Giacomo Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and Gaetano Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. Also for the city’s principal theatre, the Orchestra will perform Nino Rota’s Il cappello di paglia di Firenze in November 2025.
